August's Baptism!

Big news here is that August was successfully baptized last Saturday at the Otterberg Abteikirche.  The ceremony could not have been more perfect.  August and one other little boy were baptized together.  August was the younger of the two but was very well behaved, save the occasional yelp to hear his high pitched voice bounce off the cathedral walls.  He handled the holy water bravely, like he was expecting something strange to happen and was determined not to flinch.  Actually I think he was transfixed by either the priest's booming voice or maybe his beard.  He doesn't see too many of those.  After the water, the priest presented August to the audience by saying a few words in German.  We then lit a candle for August as per the German tradition and said the Lord's Prayer.  Following the ceremony, we held a reception at a small Italian restaurant adjacent to the church.  August's do-it-all Godmother, Ute Kuehner, who is also our close friend, August's Tagesmutter (aka Nanny), and landlord, made two delicious cakes to celebrate the event.  Pictures were taken and then the cakes were quickly devoured by yours truly and our guests.
