One Month Old!!

Weighing in just over 9,.5 pounds, his milk gut is expanding appropriately and he is just as tall as the average six-month-old. In the process of reaching his first month birthday, August has mastered the following skills:

**grabbing (particularly nearby fingers);

**he can successfully make a fist and shake it at you;

**August regularly practices “push-ups” and holding his head high;

**leg extensions;

**and he has rolled over twice unassisted!

After some horrific adventures in pumping, Mommy and Daddy learned that August will not drink from an artificial nipple, despite Daddy’s best efforts. We are not quite sleeping the night through, however, August’s lungs have demonstrably strengthened.

Tummy Time Pics

Three Weeks Old!!

Weight: 9 lbs Height:  2 feet
Favorite Songs: Down by the Bay and Goodnight Irene by Raffi
Favorite Activities:  Tummy Time and Jiggling with Dad, foot and neck massages from Mom (especially the ankles), and back tickling from his G-Ma.

Over the past three weeks August has been growing by leaps and bounds!!  Often times, August can be seen sporting a milk mustache and even has sideburns!!  He is learning to "communicate" with Mommy and Daddy, sometimes rather loudly, and has an array of adorable facial expressions to accompany the noises.  In the past week, in addition to heart-melting ear-to-ear grins, there have even been multiple sightings of August sticking out his bottom lip!  He is awake for longer periods of time now and will spend hours checking out his surroundings.

August loves to go on walks or errands when he is in the Ergo Carrier (thank you Auntie Amber).  We tried to take him on a walk in his stroller once and he lasted for one way of the trip and Mommy had to carry him back!  He loves going on car rides but hates getting in and out of the car seat because the restraints hold back his expressive arms.  August hates to be swaddled or restricted in any way, except when being held in someone's arms, where he has been known to curl up into a froglike position.

August has already become a world class traveler and has been to a few restaurants, the supermarket and countless bureaucratic offices.  He never complains...As long as he is being held he is happy.

Did I mention he is perfect?

Jodi and Tony Visit Us!

Jodi and Tony visited us in Germany and we had a great time catching up at Restaurant Forelle, which overlooks the Eiswoog Lake.  Baby August wore his special frog onesie and slept nearly the entire dinner in his G-ma's arms.  Tony and Gibb had fresh Forelle, Marina and Mairi had the Pike, and Jodi had Fleisch.  For drinks, Tony and Gibb both had large "Donnersberger Dunkel" beers, which just happens to be Gibb and Tony Bagnulo's favorite.  After eating we took a walk alongside the lake.  At one point during the walk, we saw what appeared to be hundreds of Carp stirring in the water.  This brought back memories of Camp Dearborn and Tony's reptilian fish stories.  We had a great time and can't wait to see the McGill's again, hopefully soon!

Baby August - One Week Old

Baby August is doing very well and has almost reached his original birth weight of 7.5lbs (3430g)!!  The little guy is tough with a barracuda latch and a firm handshake (well, finger grab).  Every day he is becoming more active and has started opening his eyes and watching his surroundings.  August is well-tempered and so far (knocking loudly on wood) he is not fussy and rarely cries.  August's favorites include being held by anyone, his daddy's football hold, Mommy's Diner, G-Ma's embrace, Opa's snoring, and the little animals that hang from his bouncer and play yard.
